MarathonR is a significant undertaking for me. Not only as a blogger but also as a person.
In December 2010 I was diagnosed as Type II Diabetic and placed on a round of medication to reverse several health issues that being uncontrolled had caused. I resolved, at that moment, that my life needed to change or I would die. I was:

- 305 Pounds
- BP of 148/90
- Blood Glucose of 437
- AIC of 11.9
- Severe Sleep Apnea
- XXXL Shirts
- Size 56 Suits
- 44×30 Pants
- Size 13 shoes
I was killing myself, burying myself in food, stress, stagnation, drink, and depression.
Without surgery, weight loss fads, or diet drugs I committed to losing 100 Pounds and getting control of my life. With friends and family gathered around me in support, I began to exercise and eat better. It became a habit, a focus, a lifestyle. In just a few months I realized my journey was not just saving my life but re-affirming my life. I found that getting healthy was a passion – my life was changed for the better.
In Summer 2010, I had stalled in my weight loss at 80 lbs lost. My diabetes educator had routinely suggested taking up running but I couldn’t overcome “the fat kid” mentality. He finally keyed on some themes in my life around big accomplishment. He suggested running a marathon. I was piqued enough to look into his suggested equipment and routines.
The rest of the weight melted off of me. In no time, I shed the remaining 100 pounds. In that time, I learned to enjoy running and the notion of working toward running further was exciting.
In September 2010 I took stock of myself and my healthiness. I was:
- 200 Pounds
- BP of 110/70
- Blood Glucose of 88
- AIC of 4.6
- No Sleep Apnea
- L Shirts
- Size 44 Suits
- 34×30 Pants
- Size 11 shoes
- off my medications.
I set my goal for running a 5-miler event and accomplished it in November 2010. I moved right towards wanting to complete the goal of marathon in 2011.
MarathonR is my story as I begin a formal marathon training program and accomplish the goal. Along the way I’ll write about my experiences, thoughts, accomplishments towards becoming a true marathoner.
Thanks for reading more about me and more about this blog. I appreciate your support and following.
